Okay, first of all, before we even get to the fashion, I have to do this.
R. I. P. Whitney Houston
When I found out that the legendary Whitney Houston had died, I literally stopped breathing. She was such a talent, and only 48 years old. I have always been a huge fan of hers, and was truly heartbroken from her loss. Too many people are eager to discuss the negativity that existed in her life. I will always remember her as a unique, legendary icon who will never be replaced.
It's crazy because I never even realized how big of a Whitney Houston fan I was until her passing. I Have Nothing, Saving All My Love For You, Greatest Love of All....All of her songs are so classic!
And it was nice see the Grammys honor her at last night's awards ceremony. Jennifer Hudson did an astounding job! I only wish it had been longer...
But let's move on to a lighter subject...The red carpet fashion last night! The Grammys is my favorite awards show because the stars are allowed to be a lot more bold and daring at this event. There were some major hits...and major misses last night.
So, today is February 1st. And yet it is 70 degrees here in Washington DC. Cute, right?
First of all, I'm not complaining. It's so gorgeous and warm outside! It was amazing to see everyone buzzing around the Yard here at Howard University. Days like this would make even the most salty sourpuss in the world crack a smile.
But at the same time....this is not normal. Like, it's supposed to be cold and 30 degrees and everyone should be wearing parkas and mittens and fur. Not sandals and shorts. What is going on in the world? 2012 is real y'all.
But the real dilemma is how to dress for such unseasonably warm weather. So I set out to devise the perfect "70-degrees in February outfit".
Cute, simple, and chic. Enjoy the heat wave folks!
Wow, it's been a while since I've posted! But these past few days have been so hectic. Like, honestly.
Also, can we talk about how crazy fast the fashion calendar moves! In the past month we have witnessed Pre-Fall 2012, Menswear Fall 2012, and Haute Couture Spring 2012. And in a few weeks Fall 2012 Fashion Week shows will be under way! BANANAS. So many clothes, so little time...
And although this blog is geared towards female fashion, let's just take a minure to honor men's fashion. I mean, I am a man after all.
And taking a cue from one of my greatest style icons, Vogue Nippon's Anna Dello Russo, I decided I would model a few of my favorite Menswear Fall 2012 looks. Yep, that's right. You didn't know I was a model!?
Me in Versace
Me in Burberry Prorsum
Me in Gucci
Me in DSquared2
Me in Dries Van Noten
The standout trend of the Fall 2012 menswear shows was definitely the classic suit, reintrepreted different ways. Some designers, such as Burberry Prorsum, kept it rather classic and chic, while others like Dries Van Noten went a bit more avant garde.
Men have become a lot more fashion-conscious over the last decade or so, and style is becoming more and more of a priority. Guys know that if they look great, they'll feel great and attract great things in life. Money, cars, buxom blondes...You know, the essentials.
Last night in Hollywood, the 69th Annual Golden Globes Awards took place! The Hollywood Foreign Press gathered 'round and honored the creme de la creme of this year's films and television.
Honestly, I don't care about who wins these awards. I think I've only been to the movie theater 3 or 4 times this year, and none of the films were Golden Globe nominees. I just want to indulge in that good ol' red carpet fashion. This is just the beginning of awards season, so expect plenty of juicy commentary in the very near future!
Moving on, I tragically missed the red carpet. I saw a massive amount of tweets proclaiming things such as: "OMG, ____ looks amazing!", and was a bit sour. My roommate was watching some football game or some other sports nonsense. All I can say is THANK GOD FOR THE INTERNET, am I right?
On last night's red carpet there were some hits, some misses, and some that landed in the boring Limbo in between. Click on for an in-depth review!
Okay so, I've been meaning to make this post for a while, and I'm just now getting around to it. This past week has been the registration period for spring semester classes and I've just been soooo stressed out. I can't deal with all of these e-mails and override slips and various other nonsense.
But here's the thing....Charlize Theron is amazing.
Last month me and and a few of my friends saw Charlize in the movie, "Young Adult". If you haven't seen it yet...you really need to because it is so good! I was literally dying of laughter during some parts of the movie. (Which is kind of awkward since everyone else in the theater was quiet...)
But seriously, GO SEE IT. If you love black comedies, you'll love it.
BUT YOU'RE NOT HERE FOR MOVIE REVIEWS.
We're here to analyze the style of one of my all-time favorite actresses!
Today, my beloved Versace released their entire Spring 2012 ad campaign.
There are not any words that are really necessary to describe these images. They sort of speak for themselves. And what do they say, you ask?
"Worship me, mortals."
The world's #1 supermodel, Gisele Bundchen, is absolutely stunning in this campaign. She's got sort of a "sultry swimming pool sex goddess" thing going on. And I love it. Oh, and the clothes look good too. The blue and purple ombre lighting in these pictures was a brilliant decision.
